Used to accompany vocal, instrumental and dance music, the Doumbek is played in many styles throughout the Middle East, Turkey, Eastern Europe, & now, many parts of the West. Traditionally played on the lap, get its name from its two basic sounds: open bass (dum) sound and a sharp, closed (bek) sound. Also has many solo styles and is recognized as one of the more sophisticated of the world's hand drums.
